Static Competition
The Phenix Project
The Phenix project is an interactive presentation presented by the U.S. Scale Masters Association at the 2011 AMA Show in Ontario, Ca. Working in partnership with the California Scale Modelers Association, a team of scale modelers will completely scale out a World War One Fokker DR1 ARF and prepare it for competition in the open class at a Scale Masters competition.
While it’s true, the U.S. Scale Masters is a National competition designed to bring together the best scale model builders and flyers across the country, it also offers classes suited to novice builders and new flyers looking to compete in the world of scale model aviation. It is exactly why the Phenix Project was developed. Each person attending the AMA Expo is invited to stop by the U.S. Scale Masters booth and watch as this out of the box ARF is transformed into an open class competition model. The DR1 will undergo a complete color change, stripped of its covering and recovered with a fabric appropriate for it’s year, installed with a number of scale features, weathered and remarked with correct marking and by the end of the expo, this DR1 will be ready for competition.
Throughout the expo, Bernie Boland, the U.S. Scale Masters National Chairman will be keeping show attendees up to date on the progress of the DR1 as well as discussing the required documentation and necessary maneuvers a pilot would need to know to compete with this airplane in the open class at a Scale Masters event.
The Phenix Project will be entertaining, educational, and motivating. The Phenix Project in active partnership with the AMA and is designed to challenge even a novice RC pilot into taking his hobby to the next level.
